Tens of thousands of people in Honduras will be walking for peace and democracy on August 16. In support, we’re hosting a local prayer walk in Grand Rapids—and we’d love for you to join us. We’ll meet at 2037 Division Ave SE and walk to Garfield Park, where we’ll spend some time in prayer and hear brief remarks about the importance of standing with the people of Honduras. This is a peaceful, public event to show support for democracy and justice. If joining in person doesn’t feel right for you, we’ll also share a prayer guide you can use from home. o help you assess your level of comfort with participating, here are some more details to help you decide: 1) We will be gathering in the parking lot behind our office (2037 Division Ave SE) and walking down Division and Burton with signs showing support for Honduran democracy. Our group will be very visible during this time. 2)We will be walking to Garfield Park, where we will be gathering for prayer and speeches about the need to support democracy in Honduras. We will be in the park for about 45 minutes. 3)We will be advocating specifically for Representative Hillary Scholten to speak out about Honduran democracy and to co-sponsor H.R. 4202, a bill in support of Honduran democracy. 4)We will be sending out media advisories beforehand, and hope that local media will come to cover the event in order to raise awareness for what is currently happening in Honduras. We cannot guarantee that media will be present, but we hope so. 4)We will be taking lots of pictures throughout and sharing them on our social media (restricted to a US audience) and our website, as well as with our partners in Honduras. 5)We ask that everyone who participates in the march brings a form of ID with them.!
