WORK LOCATION: Warren

 

DEPARTMENT: Academic-Tutoring

 

POSITION PAY RANGE: $9.87 - 20.00, Hourly

 

TARGET HIRING RANGE: Actual pay offered will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience, and pay equity both internal and external.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The professional tutor performs one-on-one and small group instruction (may include supplemental instruction) to assist students and aid student success. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

• Apply knowledge of discipline to provide one-on-one and small group instruction to students, as assigned.

• Assist students with course work.

• Mentor and assist peer tutors as needed.

• Maintain records, as required; assist in maintaining the professional appearance of the tutoring area including clean up when necessary.

• Participate in all training sessions and meetings as requested.

• Participate in training/course work leading to certification by the national Tutoring Association.

• Administrative responsibilities and leadership duties as requested by supervisor.

• Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.

• Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.

• Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.

• Demonstrated knowledge in the appropriate disciplines.

• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and to initiate work on projects independently.

• Strong customer service commitment.

• Demonstrated ability to set and accomplish goals, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.

• Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office products.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

• Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.

• Business office/Computer Lab environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain).

• No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

• Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or weekends, additional hours during peak times or as required.
