Nature of Work

The purpose of this job is to enforce parking ordinances of parked vehicles on/off street in the City of Grand Rapids.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

• Checks parked vehicles; identifies and determines those that are illegally parked on assigned routes; identifies violation and issues ticket.
• Observes and reports defective meters, obstruction on the sidewalks, pavements and damaged or missing signs
• Responds to customer inquiries, resolves public complaints if possible, and provides information
• Testifies in court regarding contested parking tickets; presents photos and evidence; answers any questions
• Verifies license plates of violators using handheld computer to determine if cars are on scofflaw list due to being repeat offenders; orders the impounding of vehicles as required
• Maintains assigned equipment and supplies such as hand-held citation computer, printer, paper, envelopes etc.
• Operates a motorized vehicle
• Reports observed matters which concern the public peace and safety
• Performs related work as required

• High school diploma (or GED equivalent)

• Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

• Valid Michigan driver's license
