Nature of Work
The purpose of this job is to enforce parking ordinances of parked vehicles on/off street in the City of Grand Rapids.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Checks parked vehicles; identifies and determines those that are illegally parked on assigned routes; identifies violation and issues ticket.
- Observes and reports defective meters, obstruction on the sidewalks, pavements and damaged or missing signs
- Responds to customer inquiries, resolves public complaints if possible, and provides information
- Testifies in court regarding contested parking tickets; presents photos and evidence; answers any questions
- Verifies license plates of violators using handheld computer to determine if cars are on scofflaw list due to being repeat offenders; orders the impounding of vehicles as required
- Maintains assigned equipment and supplies such as hand-held citation computer, printer, paper, envelopes etc.
- Operates a motorized vehicle
- Reports observed matters which concern the public peace and safety
- Performs related work as required
Minimum Training and Experience
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma (or GED equivalent)

- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Required License
- Valid Michigan driver's license
