Nature of Work
This is highly skilled and lead work involving the maintenance and repair of city buildings and other facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a designated supervisor. The employee is expected to give guidance and direction to less experienced or seasonal employees and may serve as a crew leader on special projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment; calibrates and adjusts equipment and assures proper functioning.
  • Performs rough and finished carpentry work, such as installing paneling, cabinets, drywall, flooring, framing, and shelves in public buildings and facilities.
  • Repairs and replaces roofs, repairs and fabricates ventilation ducts, gutters, and spouts.
  • Repairs and replaces doors, windows, walls, ceilings, floors and performs locksmith duties.
  • Builds forms, pours and finishes concrete; repairs concrete structures; lays bricks and makes repairs to brick walls.
  • Performs plumbing work; repairs faucets, commodes, water heaters and valves; maintains and repairs sprinkling systems and equipment related to swimming pools and splash pads.
  • Prepares and paints walls, floors, ceilings; builds shelves, bulletin boards, display cases and the like; repairs desks, tables, chairs, other furniture, and machinery.
  • Operates a variety of standard power tools and equipment in grounds and building maintenance and repair activities on a regular basis.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on buildings, appliances, plumbing and electrical fixtures.
  • Maintains records and logs, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Experience
  • High School diploma (or GED equivalent)
--AND--
  • Five (5) years of experience in a variety of trades or construction work.
--OR--
  • Any combination of equivalent training and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications
  • Michigan driver’s license
  • Experience or Licensure in Heating Service and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Servicing
