Nature of Work
This position will be working as a Building Maintenance Skilled Trade Aide. This is an entry-level position designed to provide entry-level training and on the job experience in Facilities-Building Maintenance. The goal of this position is to provide a broad range of general knowledge about skilled trades and begin the learning and development of a specialty area that leads to certification or licensure qualification in the State of Michigan. Expectations of this position include successful completion of the formal training programs provided by the departments created to establish core competencies. Work in this position is performed under the close guidance and supervision of a supervisor, lead worker or a more experienced employee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Receives training on preventative maintenance for buildings, appliances, plumbing, and electrical fixtures.
- Cleans and makes minor repairs to walls, windows, doors, floors; straightens up work areas; moves furniture, materials, and supplies; picks up and delivers supplies, parts, and materials; cleans equipment; cleans and unplugs drains
- Performs rough carpentry work, assists in installing paneling, cabinets, drywall, flooring, framing, and shelves in public buildings and facilities
- Repairs and replaces doors, walls, ceilings, floors and performs locksmith duties
- Performs basic plumbing work; repairs faucets, commodes, water heaters, and valves; maintains and repairs sprinkling systems and equipment
- Prepares and paints walls, floors, ceiling; builds shelves, bulletin boards, display cases and the like; repairs desks, tables, chairs, and other furniture.
- Assists with performing work duties and technical tasks above and/or below ground, inside and/or outside commercial or residential building structures
- Assists with the installation of necessary equipment for maintenance and/or repairs such as wire, pipes, ventilation, conduit, motors, electrical/computer systems, and/or others
- Provides customer service assistance as needed for the 24-hour operations including, but not limited to, handling lower-level customer complaints and/or concerns
- Assists with identifying and assessing technical problems; learns and applies departmental techniques and methods using the necessary tools and equipment to do the work such as the use of computer detection and monitoring systems
- Cleans, maintains, and stores equipment, tools, and instruments; washes, cleans, and dust assigned equipment, and work area
- Participates in developing and implementing SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and WIs (Written Instructions)
- Reviews plans and/or maps of structures for inspections, troubleshooting, and/or repair
- Collects and records measurements and other data
- Maintains and prepares reports on inspections, as well as completed and pending work
- Performs any other related work as required
Minimum Training and Experience
- Graduation from high school or GED

- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and/or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Possession of a valid Driver's License
