Job Description
The Department of Art & Art History invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Studio Art in Printmaking. This is a tenure-track, full-time position (24 workload hours: 18 teaching hours; 6 research/creative activity hours) on a 9-month contract to begin in August 2026. We are a NASAD accredited, BA granting, fine arts program in the context of a Christian liberal arts college.
The department seeks an artist deeply engaged in printmaking and the expanded field. The candidate must possess a strong foundation in traditional printmaking practices, including intaglio, relief, screen print, and plate lithography. Proficiency with hybrid and digital technologies in the context of printmaking is expected. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to guide students through traditional printmaking processes towards innovative and experimental thinking that engages contemporary discourse in the field. Integration of art theory is expected in advanced studio courses.
Embracing interdisciplinary explorations and promoting student excellence within a liberal arts context is at the core of the department's mission. Teaching all levels of printmaking to undergraduate Studio Art majors and non-majors. In addition to a primary appointment in Printmaking, the successful candidate will contribute to the college's general education curriculum, which may include teaching First Year Seminars and the department's senior capstone course on a rotating basis. Rotating department leadership is expected of all tenured faculty members.
The Department of Art and Art History features a 1230 square-foot print shop equipped with an American French Tool Press, 36" × 60" press bed, a Charles Brand Press, 26" × 48" press bed, a Kimmel England Press, an etching room, and a screen printing darkroom with a large-format vacuum exposure unit, 72" washout booth equipped with power washer, and thirty 20" × 24" silkscreens. Studio-offices are provided for faculty in the De Pree Art Center. The permanent collection of the Kruizenga Art Museum includes a significant global print collection available for teaching and study. Hope College is located approximately 2.5 driving hours from Detroit and Chicago, with daily train service between Chicago and Holland. The College and Department have opportunities for professional development support and summer research funding.

Qualifications
·Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in printmaking
·Ability to teach studio art within the context of an undergraduate Christian Liberal Arts College
·Active studio practice with a vibrant exhibition record.
·Engagement with global perspectives that embraces diversity and inclusion through studio practice, teaching, or service.
·Ability in printing techniques including intaglio, relief, screen print, plate lithography, and digital processes.
