Summary of Position: Under the direction and supervision of the Associate Dean of Student Life, the Basic Needs Care Coordinator will provide support and outreach to students identified as having unmet needs and referred to the Dean of Student Life Office.
The Basic Needs Care Coordinator will engage in data-informed monitoring to direct their outreach and assist students with their transition to campus, build their knowledge and connection to campus resources, resolve their questions, concerns, and complaints, and otherwise help them successfully persist to completion.
This position is a full-time, 12 month, in person (Big Rapids campus), 3 year temporary position.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in student affairs, social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited institution.
Required Work Experience: 1 year of professional or undergraduate experience in Student Affairs, Residence Life, Student Conduct, social work setting, counseling, or similar collegiate student development experience.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Master’s degree in student affairs, social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited institution.
Experience in case management.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Flexibly and creatively determine and respond to the changing needs of students and be able to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
Serve as the chair of the Bulldog Basic Needs Alliance and foster a strong sense of community collaboration.
Serve as a member of the Care Team, reporting on trends related to student basic needs insecurities and their experiences in resource seeking and assistance.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Receive reports and successfully host intake meetings with students expressing basic needs, insecurities, and other possible non-academic concerns related to belonging.
Assess the needs of students referred to the Care Team for basic needs assistance and other non-academic concerns.
Develop an intervention plan, including connecting students to services, on and off campus, and assisting students with relief funding applications.
Document interactions, intakes, and intervention plans for students referred in the electronic system (Maxient) and communicate effectively with referral sources, faculty, and staff when appropriate.
Provide support and advocacy for students facing basic needs and insecurities on campus.
Develop a framework for basic needs programming and education that does not yet exist on our campus.
Assist in the annual administration of the basic needs survey distributed to all students and other data collection activities.
Assist with the Bulldog Pantry, including food ordering, stocking, delivery acceptance, and budgeting when Pantry Coordinator needs assistance.
Provide outreach weekly to students who have visited the Bulldog Pantry and West Campus Apartments Pantry.
Sharing other resources on and off campus that is relevant to students experiencing basic need insecurities.
Provide recommendations regarding the allocation of Student Relief Funding and BBNA funding to students experiencing need.
Assist in coordinating extensively with campus and community organizations to obtain resources for students and to promote student success, retention, and completion by removing barriers to their education.
Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
