Summary of Position: Independently provide responsible support functions for the Coordinator of International Admissions, including but not limited to document collection, processing and shipment, file system management, tracking and follow-up with international applicants, excellent and efficient communication and customer service with international applicants, assistance with the transfer credit process and new student orientation. Support in other areas of the office may also be necessary at times.

The anticipated start date for this position is October of 2024. However, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed.

Required Work Experience: Experience working in an office environment. Proficiency with software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.). Effective communication skills both orally and in writing.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:  
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Process international students’ admission, including analyzing special requests and circumstances, preparing files, and inputting data in Banner and specific databases.

Serve as one of the primary contacts between prospective international students and the university via email and/or letters.

Under general direction, I may assist with SEVIS and immigration-related matters.

Routinely handle confidential information and assist co-workers on such issues.

Work with other offices to process international students’ admissions to their programs and transfer credits.

Assist in the planning and implementation of orientation for all incoming international students.

Work with Banner, Salesforce, and the SEVIS system for tracking purposes and report preparation.

Investigate, develop, recommend, implement, and/or revise University procedures relating to specific area(s).

Serve as the ‘lead worker’ for other non-administrative staff with questions and act as ‘back-up’ to other employees.

Coordinate communication with prospective students via various forms of communication, including e-mail, telephone, social media, etc.

Reports directly to the Coordinator of International Admissions.

Responsible for learning and interpreting immigration-related laws and regulations.

Responsible for supervising and training assigned student employees within the area of responsibility.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities following University policies and applicable laws.

Demonstrates understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.

Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Serve as liaison to University departments on issues related to international students and guests.

May be assigned to act as departmental liaison with other University departments and external contacts.

Represent Ferris State University at assigned conferences and meetings.

Serve on University committees.
Skills and Abilities: Communicate effectively with a diverse customer population.

Meet deadlines, demonstrate excellent organization and analytic skills.

Operate a variety of office machines and equipment.

Perform mathematical functions and advanced bookkeeping, accounting and record keeping with accuracy and attention to detail.

Plan, organize and make sound judgments and decisions.

Utilize the rules of proper grammar, correct spelling and punctuation, and proper arrangement of information.

Understand and maintain current knowledge of special terminology and regulations.

Use computer software and mainframe programs and systems.

Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
