Nature of Work
The City of Grand Rapids is accepting applications for upcoming engineering internships. These internships will be located with the Engineering, Water and Mobile GR Traffic Safety Departments and will focus on various types of project work under the direction of Project Managers or Project Engineers.
Interning with the City of Grand Rapids is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in essential public services while contributing to water sustainability and safety. As a civil engineering intern with the second-largest city in Michigan, you will work alongside experienced engineers to help execute projects that benefit the public and support the City’s vibrant, dynamic growth, while gaining valuable exposure to design and construction in a dense urban environment through mentorship from senior staff.

Hours
Normal business hours are 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday. If construction inspection is being performed, then work hours may shift as needed. Work hours are flexible to accommodate school schedules as needed. Expectation is 30-40 hours per week for summer 2026 with the possibility of extension, and 12-18 hours per week during the school year, not to exceed one year without reapplying.
