Nature of Work

The purpose of this job is to provide professional level administrative support services to a department head or other administrative position. Manages assigned projects. Work as staff liaison to the various departmental divisions and programs and outside agencies; may act as staff liaison with the media.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Specific to the Communications & Marketing Coordinator

Plans, creates and executes all external and internal communications strategies for Parks, Recreation, Forestry, and Cemeteries
Leads the strategy and day-to-day management of department social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, Threads). Creates and schedules content, moderates comments, and answers incoming messages.
Shoots photography and videography for use in promotional materials
Creates promotional materials using Adobe Creative Suite (Primarily Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Lightroom)
Manages various websites using Content Management Systems (Open Cities, WordPress)
Leads survey building, launching, and data reporting for recreation program and community event participants
Leads communication strategy for the Grand River Revitalization Project (GRRP), including developing and implementing communications plans, leading partners in joint communication, graphic design, media relations, and project management for contracted communication firms
Serves as department brand manager, creating internal policy and guides to ensure proper brand, voice, and tone standards are followed across all communication tactics
Assists in coordination of department-hosted events, including registration set-up, promotion, pre- and post-event communication
Assists with large-scale quarterly joint print publication between the City and other community partners
Assists department leadership in the planning and design of presentations and reports for various external and internal stakeholders
Responds to inquiries and complaints from citizens; responds to media inquiries; prepares statements and informational materials for the media; coordinates ongoing public information programs; assists departments in the preparation and presentation of public information
Represents the department in meetings with various individuals and groups, including citizens and other governmental officials, representatives from various organizations and associations
Performs related work as required

Minimum Training and Experience
Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Public Administration, Government, or a related field
--AND--
At least two (2) to four (4) years of progressively responsible related work experience
--OR--
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Highly Preferred Education 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or a related field.
