Grand Rapids is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Adjunct Instructor to teach Radiologic Technology courses. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success, ensuring a high-quality learning experience for all students.

Adjunct needs are determined on a semester by semester basis, as are the number of sections offered each semester. GRCC classes are held at a variety of times, Monday through Saturday. For semester start and end dates, see GRCC's Academic Calendar.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Teach GRCC course offering(s) in Radiologic Technology and General Health - Radiographic Exposure with corresponding lab, Radiographic Positioning lab, Medical Terminology, and Clinical Experience Oversight.
• Perform tasks normally expected of adjunct faculty members:
• Follow the required syllabus template.
• Use the required textbook as determined by the department.
• Meet classes during the time scheduled and for the appropriate length of time required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• State course outcomes clearly at the beginning of the course and state the criteria and procedures for evaluating student attainment of these objectives.
• Promote an intellectually stimulating atmosphere in the classroom which is conducive to the attainment of high academic achievement and stated course outcomes.
• Keep accurate student academic records.
• Report grades by contractual deadline.
• Make reasonable accommodations as approved by the Disability Support Services to meet students' needs and in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Follow College policy on the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Make all reasonable efforts to respond to communication in a timely manner and provide reasonable means for student access to course information.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Education or Health related field preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Education or Health related field required.
• Current ARRTRadiography registration.

• Current certification in CT, MRI, Mammography, or Interventional Radiography modality preferred.

Work Experience

• Minimum of 2 years (4,000 hours) current experience in Radiologic Technology in a hospital setting within the last 5 years.
• Two years of post-secondary teaching experience is preferred.

• Demonstrated expertise in the subject area and a commitment to continuous professional development.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and faculty team.
• Proficiency in using instructional technology and learning management systems (e.g.,Gmail, Canvas, Blackboard).

Physical Demands

• Some evening work (grading, preparing for class, responding to email questions) will be needed.
• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
• Physical Strength-Assists in transferring patients from wheelchairs and beds to X-ray tables and vice versa. Patients may be comatose, paralyzed or suffering from some degree of incapacity. The student may have to move heavy equipment, such as a portable X-ray machine, to different locations.
• Mobility-Stand and reach overhead to position the X-ray tube hanging from the ceiling; move quickly in an emergency; and be able to perform work while standing for long periods of time.
• Hearing-Ability to hear faint sounds from a distance of 15 feet-the approximate distance between the control panel of exposure switches and the X-ray table where the patient is being placed. He/she must also be able to hear faint signals emitted by a dysfunctioning machine.
• Visual Discrimination-Vision that enables him/her to differentiate changing colors of X-ray films and to read markings on dials, monitors etc.
• Coordination-Good motor skills, eye-hand coordination skills, and sensory function in at least one upper limb are needed to align body parts of a patient with the film. Some of the other functions requiring dexterity include filling syringes, putting on surgical gloves, and manipulating locks on equipment.
• Manual Dexterity-Gross motor skills such as standing, walking, and writing. In addition, fine motor skills are needed (such as the ability to make insertion of IV lines, calibrate equipment, draw blood, and so on).
• Communication Skills-Ability to communicate orally and in writing. For example, he/she must be able to read and give directions and instructions clearly and to accurately record health data from patients.

• Must be able to work in a classroom and laboratory in an academic setting well as external clinical sites.
• Must be able to travel to various clinical sites.
