Nature of Work
The purpose of this job is to install, maintain, test, repair, upgrade electrical equipment and infrastructure ranging from low voltage (600Volts or less) and medium voltage (600Volts to 12,470Volts).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs/replaces electrical systems and electrical equipment.
Designs, plans, constructs, modifies, installs electrical systems and electrical equipment.
Coordination and collaboration with electrical contractors, other skilled trades, electrical engineers, project managers, and other City staff. Leads and assists less experienced workers.
Evaluates, inspects, documents, creates as-builts, creates punch list for jobs and projects.
Operates various types of equipment such as aerial lifts, cranes, backhoes, and other machinery.
Performs daily recordkeeping for labor, materials, and equipment for work orders, asset management systems, and code and/or regulatory compliance.
Operates various computer and smart phone programs and applications for control, monitoring, data collection and diagnosis of electrical control, power, wireless, and fiber optic systems. 
Performs various duties related to the operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment and software pertaining to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and remote asset operations.
Creates SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for preventative/predictive maintenance activities and best practices.
Maintains inventory control and ordering of parts, materials, tools, and equipment.
Understands and follows strict safety standards including, but not limited to, OSHA, arc flash, shock, lockout, confined space, and PPE requirements.
Performs related work as required.
Participates in 24/7/365 essential City services rotation schedules and call-out lists as needed.
Attends technical courses and seminars for updating knowledge.
Attends and participates in continuous improvement classes and events and offers suggestions for improvements.  
Minimum Training and Experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma (or GED equivalent)

Required Licenses or Certifications
State of Michigan Master’s Electrician License
State of Michigan Contractor’s License to pull electrical permits for City projects or the ability to obtain license within 180 days as required by the department
State of Michigan Driver’s License
State of Michigan Class A CDL License or the ability to obtain license within 180 days as required by the department
Other Necessary Qualifications
Knowledge of:

Electrical hazards and safety precautions 
Electrical Arc Flash boundaries
Electrical Arc Flash uniforms and garments
Electrical Arc Flash PPE
Electrical Shock Hazard boundaries
Electrical Shock Hazard PPE
Electrical Shock Hazard equipment and tools
National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code
The principles and practices of electrical systems and wiring, including specialized wiring systems
Applicable computer applications
Inventory management principles and practices
Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping and recordkeeping
Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
Federal, state and local standards and codes relating to electrical
Skill in:
Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective, appropriate, polite, and professional working relationships 
Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios
Ability to:
Work from sketches, blueprints, instruction manuals and circuit schematics 
Operate applicable machinery, tools and equipment
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Meet schedules and deadlines of projects and assignments
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
Maintain the confidentiality of information, critical infrastructure and professional boundaries
Work outdoors in all weather conditions, often in very hazardous situations
