Reporting to the Chief Operational Officer, the Director of Marketing & Sales is responsible for the growth strategy, plan execution, and revenue generation of the marketing, sales and events teams, with clear and achievable annual metrics. The incumbent develops strategies, plans, and implements tactics to develop, lead, manage, and promote John Ball Zoo’s brand and marketing efforts, resulting in attendance, membership, and revenue growth. 
 
This position’s pay range: $101,660 - $119,600

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND SALES AT JBZ
The Director of Marketing and Sales provides leadership and direction to the Marketing and Events teams and maintains strong working relationships with all areas of John Ball Zoo. They lead the creation and implementation of, and measure the success of, a comprehensive strategy and plan that will enhance the Zoo’s brand and position in the marketplace and the general public, driving attendance and sales.  This role oversees all media representation of John Ball Zoo and maintains a current, comprehensive media contact list for dissemination of information. They also collaborate across Zoo departments on the creation and implementation of marketing strategy, as well as developing and maintaining external partnerships. This role is responsible for brand strategy and guidelines, standardization, and ensuring that the Zoo’s brand is protected and consistent, internally and externally.
 
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND SALES AT JBZ
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field
  • 5-10 years of progressively responsible and demonstrably successful experience in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, and Sales
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams, promoting a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, culture-building, and decision-making skills
  • Basic computer literacy and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, computer graphics, multimedia presentation and database applications
 
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • A minimum of 3+ years of proven management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; team player with a mindset of continuous learning and improvement
  • Ability to work independently, with weekly check-ins with other organization leaders
  • Proven ability to effectively handle multiple priorities with exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical skills with a strategic mindset focused on data-driven decisions
  • Accountability for key performance indicators (e.g., attendance, revenue)
