Field Conservation Coordinator
The Field Conservation Coordinator will conduct and coordinate a diverse array of conservation field projects.  These projects include but are not limited to working with freshwater mussels, turtles, sturgeon, butterflies, native plants, birds, snakes, and community science.  Work may require providing care for rare or threatened species. The Field Conservation Coordinator will coordinate Conservation Department work with both external and internal partners. The Coordinator will also assist the Conservation Manager in the preparation of the John Ball Zoos conservation plan.

 This position’s pay ranges : Hourly range – $17.77- $20.90  depending on experience

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FIELD CONSERVATION COORDINATOR AT JBZ
This position will work in the field as required, working with seasonal conservation staff, volunteers and interns. They will utilize and established field techniques to conduct surveys for a variety of taxa including turtles, sturgeon, freshwater mussels, and butterflies. They will support a variety of zoo objectives working cooperatively with a wide variety of departments. This position will also assist with the development of writing standard operating procedures and department policies and procedures. All while completing any other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A FIELD CONSERVATION COORDINATOR AT JBZ
In this position, we are looking for someone who has an affinity for the mission and vision of the John Ball Zoo. The ability to lead and coordinate work with the conservation department staff, interns, and volunteers. Experience developing and writing research/field plans and protocols, a Master in Life Sciences or conservation-related field, or equivalent experience in the conservation.  Preferred but not required experience, in safely of handling wild turtles, identifying native freshwater mussels and experience working with rare butterflies.
