Summary: The Physics Department at Grand Valley State University invites applications for Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026. Applicants are expected to have a Ph. D. in Physics or a closely related field, with a background in experimental physics. Successful candidates will have a commitment to undergraduate education and a research program with potential to involve undergraduate students in experimental or related work. Required Qualifications and Education:

• Ph.D. in Physics or closely related field. Current ABD candidates will be considered for a two-year contract with the provision that the Ph.D. must be completed by December 2027.

• Potential for successful college-level teaching in physics and active research that involves undergraduate students.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect.

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

• Research in experimental physics or a closely related area.

• Demonstrated ability to develop undergraduate labs in experimental physics.

Responsibilities: Tenure-line faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are typically hired on nine-month contracts, with a nine-contact hour teaching load per semester. They are also expected to engage in scholarship, service, and to engage in a significant focus activity, which is equivalent to three credit hours of additional responsibilities in teaching, scholarly/creative activity, and/or service depending on the successful candidate's interests and the department's needs. Candidates are expected to develop a research program that will potentially involve undergraduate students.

Minimum Starting Salary: $79,273; commensurate with experience.
