Position Title: Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Location: Big Rapids (Main Campus)

Advertised Salary: 48,000-55,000 salary commensurate with education, experiences and other requirements. Comprehensive benefit package (health care, vacation, etc.)

Summary of Position: Serve as the strength and conditioning coach for Ferris State University Division II athletic programs, including men’s and women’s basketball, football, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field and women’s volleyball. The list of sports this position will be working with is subject to change at the discretion of the Athletic Director or Sr. Associate Athletic Director.

Responsible for department wide administration of strength and conditioning, including but not limited to: develop and administer all training program's, weight room scheduling and oversight, participation on athletic department senior staff, management of student employees and potential intern positions.

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in exercise science, sports fitness, kinesiology, or related field
Required Work Experience: Minimum 1 year of previous work experience developing and maintaining strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes at the intercollegiate level.
Required Licenses and Certifications: Up to date credentials as Certified and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (SCCC) from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, or previously scheduled CSCS or SCCC exam with proof of certification necessary within 90 days of hire. Also required are valid certifications in CPR, AED and First- AID.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Previous experience in sports nutrition; previous experience in both injury reduction and rehabilitation and has worked with both male and female intercollegiate student-athletes preferred.
Previous management experience of weight room facilities and student employees or interns will also be considered.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Design and implement individual and team strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes participating in men’s and women’s Division II athletic programs at Ferris State University.

Manage athletics weight room in conjunction with the Coordinator of Athletic Performance: Including maintaining all equipment, ordering new equipment, scheduling facility, and managing student-athletes employees and interns.

Counsel and advise coaches and student-athletes on various components of strength and conditioning program, including weight room safety, proper exercise technique, sports nutrition and injury reduction.

Work with coaching staffs and sport medicine staff to integrate student-athlete injury reduction and rehabilitation into strength and conditioning programs

Work with head coaches, sports medicine staff, and athletics department senior staff to develop and integrate student-athlete supplement policy in accordance with NCAA regulations.

Work in conjunction with athletic department equipment manager/equipment staff/ equipment staff to minimize spread of communicable disease and pathogens within athletic weight room

As assigned, may hire, train, schedule, and evaluate student personnel and interns in accordance with university, state and federal rules and regulations.

Perform all duties in compliance with any applicable University policies and procedures, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations, and state and federal requirements.

Reports to Sr. Associate Athletic Director.

Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information.

In conjunction with the Athletic Director or Sr. Associate Athletic Director, assist in creating fundraising initiatives for a program budget.

Review and approve conditioning sessions submitted by individual head or assistant coaches.

Participate as a member of the Athletics Department Senior Staff as assigned by the Athletic Director or his/her designee.

Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
