Nature of Work

This position will leverage the multi-layered Grand River restoration project to create policy and systems that support the utilization of Micro-Local Business Enterprises (MLBE), wealth creation focused on reducing disparities through river business development and support, embed equity in the multiple Request for Proposals (RFPs) and contracts to be issued, hiring of Grand Rapids Neighborhoods of Focus (NOF) residents, and will also include culturally responsive and focused outreach and engagement needed to meet those goals.

Examples of work for this position will include:

  • Extensive community outreach
  • Work with internal City departments such as Comptroller and IT to streamline CGI vendor registration system and processes
  • Work with the City's Purchasing department to establish more advance notice of bid opportunities through the publication of a forecasting report
  • Partner alignment and development of agreements around roles, data sharing and investments
  • Power analysis of decision-making, resources, processes and data
  • Creation of a comprehensive communication plan and reporting system
  • Leveraging additional dollars to invest in equitable wealth creation and employment
  • Creating shared agreement on metrics and the process to collect and analyze metrics with internal and external partners as it relates to MLBEs and NOF hiring.
  • Policy creation and/or proposed policy review using the GARE Racial Equity toolkit or similar framework.
  • Leading the framework for a river related MLBE incubation set-up along the river banks. 
SPECIAL NOTE: This is a grant funded position.  If the funding for this position is not renewed, the individual in this position will be placed in layoff status.
 
Minimum Training and Experience

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, public administration or a related field
--AND--
  • At least four (4) years of related administrative work experience specific to the employing department
  • One (1) year supervising support unit

  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
