Promise Zone Student Support Coordinator

The Grand Rapids Promise Zone Student Support Coordinator will provide direct services to students in support of the Grand Rapids Promise Zone's efforts to increase the college going culture for Grand Rapids students through post-secondary preparation, transition to GRCC/post-secondary education, persistence, retention and completion. This person must be motivated and be able to work independently to provide case management student services, focused on building relationships with Promise Zone students attending GRCC, as well as collaborate with the Promise Zone team.
This position requires high-touch case management. Regular communications with students, GRCC faculty/staff, and community partners through various means such as e-mail, phone call, classroom visits, events and face to face conversation is expected. The Promise Zone Student Support Coordinator is expected to be knowledgeable about community, post-secondary, and campus resources for referrals and creative strategies to encourage and support students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Build relationships and support Promise Zone students to connect them with accessing, persisting and completing their post-secondary goals.
• Provide leadership in developing, planning, and implementing activities that promote the Promise Zone scholarship to eligible students and families through a variety of communication and outreach activities.
• Provide consistent, holistic, high-touch case management to current Promise Zone students at GRCC that support them in enrollment, retention and completion at GRCC.
• Assist students in creating individualized success plans based on student goals, refer to on-campus and community resources to support them in goal attainment, and collaborate with faculty and staff to monitor success towards those goals.
• Use data, analytics and other reporting resources to proactively target students and provide early outreach, interventions, and resources to mitigate potential barriers to success.
• Provide personalized communication, facilitate one-on-one meetings, identify potential barriers to academic and career success, and collaborate with faculty and staff to develop success initiatives to overcome these barriers and reach established goals.
• Provide support services, such as time management skills, test-taking strategies, or other coaching related study strategies, to build relationships and provide support that develop skills and behaviors that support successful habits in college and in their future career.
• Encourage and assist students to complete necessary tasks, targeted interventions, and utilize resources to promote post-secondary attainment.
• Introduce students to the various college/post-secondary policies to aid them in college persistence and progression.
• Identify and refer students to on-campus and community resources when appropriate to provide support in areas such as academic and career advising, mental health, disability services, financial assistance, and basic needs.
• Support students with transfer enrollment processes. This may include, but is not limited to, admissions applications, financial aid, and connection to various resources.
• Maintain accurate notes to document student interactions and referrals, and collaborate with other on-campus offices/staff/faculty to provide needed support and information sharing.
• Represent the Promise Zone in designated schools K-12 schools, outreach activities, and throughout the community.
• Maintain current knowledge of Promise Zone, GRCC, and partner high school processes. This will include, but is not limited to, eligibility requirements, GRCC application/enrollment steps, and coordinating high school processes.
• Have extensive knowledge and stay current on the financial aid process, FAFSA completion, and other financial aid resources, and be able to assist students and families in one-on-one and group settings.
• Utilize various software to view student eligibility, manage communication with, and record notes of student interactions, referrals, resources, and interventions as applicable to improve support provided to students, this will include, but is not limited to the CRM, ERP and Navigate software.
• Maintain current knowledge and provide information regarding academic and occupational degrees and certificates, as well as job training programs.
• Create and execute communication plans that provide relevant information to students and families.
• Support college-wide activities and community events such as orientation, Student Block Party, Open Houses, community festivals, etc.
• Provide support to Promise Zone students who have not taken advantage of the scholarship through various outreach methods, events, and appointments.
• Input and report student data as needed.
• Utilize technology, data, predictive analytics, and reporting tools to identify and target students and proactively provide outreach through services, resources, and support that improves student retention, persistence and completion.
• Develop, coordinate, and execute targeted and proactive communication plans using various methods to actively communicate with assigned students.
• Facilitate targeted workshops as needed and defined by the Promise Zone department and/or high school partner(s) for students and their supporters.
• Partner and assist with current activities to provide additional resources to support post-secondary plans and expand services to students and families.
• Support Promise Zone's college access events and initiatives which may include application days, FAFSA workshops, test proctoring, campus tours, new student orientation, classroom presentations, individual appointments or other activities as requested.
• Develop, plan, execute and evaluate events and activities that support student success. This may include belonging initiatives and other topics as needed or assigned.
• Assist in creating content and maintaining Promise Zone social media channels.
• Attend regular team meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.
• Persons in this role are identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSA's will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education Credentials
• Bachelor's degree required
• Degree in Higher Education, School Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred.
Work Experience
• Minimum 1 year of work experience providing direct support to students in higher education, preferably in an academic or student support services, or comparable relevant experience required (experience can include graduate assistantship, internship, or practicum experiences).
• Work experience with at-risk and diverse populations highly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be comfortable with public speaking. - Excellent formal presentation skills for small and large groups while presenting a strong professional presence.

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
Physical Demands
• Must be able to carry at least 25-30 pounds of material.
• Mix of seated office work and active off campus engagements (driving, standing at information tables and presentations, actively working with students while in schools).
