Summary of Position: • The Architecture and Facility Management Department invites applicants for a 9-month tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate professor level starting August 2025.
• The department is seeking colleagues who are disciplined, creative, collegial and who bring engagement and joy to the classroom.
• The successful applicant will hold a graduate degree in architecture or a closely related field and will have applicable work experience in architectural practice.
• Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience.
• In addition to a background in practice, applicants should have a working knowledge of and commitment to sustainable design and sustainable systems.
• Preference will be given to candidates who show an interest in and aptitude for marketing an academic program through online advertising campaigns, social media, high school and community college visits, summer camps, or other appropriate channels.
• Applicants with specific expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: experience with service learning and/or community outreach projects; introductory design; structural systems; representation; Revit, Rhino, the Adobe Creative Suite, and/or other current software.
• The anticipated start date of this position is August 2025 at the earliest and January 2026 at the latest.
• Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's campuses. The candidate(s) selected to the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.
Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing
Required Education: • Master's degree in field: acceptable options include an accredited M.Arch, or an accredited B.Arch degree plus post-professional master's degree in a related field such as design, sustainability, or building systems.
Required Work Experience: • A minimum of three years of professional practice in architecture in the United States or Canada.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: • Professional licensure and an NCARB certificate are preferred.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: • Teach full time during the 9-month academic year.
• Provide service to the department in the form of student advising, committee assignments, and maintaining a minimum of 4 office hours per week.
• Perform duties in accordance with established University policies.
• Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
• Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
• Maintain professional currency, including software currency.
• Sustain and manage the Small Town Studio through community outreach.
• Work in a professional manner with the Director of the School of Built Environment, to whom this position reports.
• Work collegially with the other members of the Architecture and Facility Management Department, including the Program Coordinator.
• Understand the Ferris State University philosophy, which places excellence in teaching as its first priority while encouraging scholarly activity.
• Collaborate with members of the School of Built Environment on school and program initiatives.
• Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), recruiting events, and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
• Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
• Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
