SUMMARY
This temporary, 4-week position is responsible for supporting GRCC's `ESL Fast Track' workshop, a State of Michigan Immigrant Student Success Grant-funded project designed to help select English as a Second Language (ESL) students improve their Levels of English Proficiency (LOEP) placement test scores.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide LOEP test-taking strategies to students individually and in small groups.
• Co-facilitate mock test scenarios with students.
• Assist the facilitator with reviewing and offering feedback on practice LOEP questions/tests.
• Assist the facilitator with large- and small-group LOEP-related activities.
• Meet one-on-one with students to review practice test scores and test-taking strategies.
• Promote the program to current and/or prospective GRCC ESL students.

Educational Credentials
• Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, Linguistics or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Work Experience
• Experience teaching or tutoring college-level literacy skills to ESL students.
• Experience working with immigrant and/or refugee populations preferred.
Skills
• Possess strong service skills with a student-oriented focus.
• Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively and maintain rapport with students and staff.
• Possess ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrate professionalism and other qualities including courtesy, patience, confidentiality, dependability, promptness, and organization.
• Participate in professional development trainings/workshops as needed and/or assigned.
Physical Demands
• This position requires regular interactions with students that may involve moving around the tutorial center, standing while providing in-person tutoring, or long periods of sitting while providing virtual support.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
Mental Demands
• Ability to adapt and work in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
• Ability to relate well to a diverse array of campus clients, including faculty, staff, and students.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• High level of creativity, energy, enthusiasm, and motivation.
• Ability to use good judgment when handling confidential and/or sensitive material.
