STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt

LOCATION: Grand Rapids, W.A. Lettinga Campus
REPORTS TO: Director - Athletics
PAY: $62,000 - $68,000
SUMMARY:
This position directs and manages the research process for possible national membership for the Athletics Department. The position will monitor to ensure current programs comply with NCAA bylaws and guidelines. The position will also coordinate all operations, GLIAC, and all other national affiliated conferences' compliance issues associated with the administration of the University's athletic programs. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity, and inclusion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Counsel and instruct all student-athletes on pertinent rules to their programs, to ensure full comprehension and understanding by all team members. Administer the student-athletes guidelines and the drug test consent forms to all student-athletes. Provide follow-up instruction and education to those student-athletes subsequently found in violation of any pertinent rules.
• Collect, review, and evaluate information related to coaches' recruiting of athletes to ensure compliance with rules. Advise coaches of violations, and recommend future courses of action to remain in compliance with GLIAC and National Office affiliations.
• Research and investigate any reported or suspected instances of rule violations. Recommend and/or administer appropriate penalties.
• Coordinate and/or provide administrative support for coaches of all sports teams, attend practices, attend home and away games, and conference championships as appropriate to represent the department. Assess administrative needs and help evaluate the coaches.
• Represent the Athletics department by participating in or chairing committees as needed.
• Develop policies and procedures to comply with conference rules and regulations. Communicate the policies and procedures, monitor ongoing activity, direct and recommend action to correct deficiencies, and prepare various reports.
• Provide written and oral guidance, assistance, and interpretation (develop and update the Coaching Procedures Manual) to the university administration, coaches, staff, and student-athletes.
• Monitor student financial aid eligibility and other conference reports. Ensure athletic scholarships and financial aid are awarded properly and within the rules of the GLIAC conference and any other national conference we may be affiliated with now and in the future.
• Represent the University at conference meetings concerning institutional compliance.
• Participate in community service projects as a representative of the university/athletic department.
• Provides compliance program support and develops recommendations/conclusions for matters concerning student-athlete recruiting, rules education, and eligibility.
• Assist in the development and delivery of rules education seminars for coaches and athletes.
• Works with the National office and various campus offices on initial and continuing eligibility certification of student-athletes.
• Prepares the Title IX Equity in Athletics Report.
• Assists in the recruitment process and activities in the recruitment of any student-athlete.
• Works closely with the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) on academic issues.
• Makes recommendations and supports any programs to ensure acceptable academic progress.
• Works collaboratively with the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC).
• Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC, and national affiliations associated with athletics or other role-specific regulations.
• Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
• Demonstrate and promote the University's Cultural Values.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's Degree in related required, Master's Degree or equivalent in Athletic Administration preferred.
• Three to five years of related experience at the NCAA level.
• Ability to travel with teams and work weekends or other extended time away from home.
• Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information,
• Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
• Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
• Demonstrated strong organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation, and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Demonstrated motivational and problem-solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to: standard criminal background checks and employment reference checks. Select positions may be subject to drug/alcohol screening
• Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). Some travel between locations is required (own transportation).
• No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturdays as needed, additional hours during peak times, or as required.
