This position is responsible for the daily oversight of operations and research activity in the Biome-chanics and Motor Performance Laboratory (BMPL). This role encompasses the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, the management of research protocols, the assurance of com-pliance with safety and regulatory standards, and the provision of assistance with data collection, processing, and analysis. This position serves as a pivotal point of contact for laboratory person-nel, collaborators, and stakeholders, thereby facilitating the seamless functioning of educational experiences and research projects.

Position Description:

 

This position is responsible for the daily oversight of operations and research activity in the Biomechanics and Motor Performance Laboratory (BMPL). This role encompasses the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, the management of research protocols, the assurance of compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and the provision of assistance with data collection, processing, and analysis. This position serves as a pivotal point of contact for laboratory personnel, collaborators, and stakeholders, thereby facilitating the seamless functioning of educational experiences and research projects.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Provide daily oversight of operations and research activity in the BMPL laboratory.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for testing and research activities.

• Ensure proper functioning of equipment with regular maintenance and calibration.

• Diagnose equipment problems and resolve issues quickly.

• Develop and update standard operating procedures for equipment use and maintenance.

• Coordinate scheduling of biomechanics testing and training sessions.

• Prepare for testing, set-up and breakdown of appropriate equipment for specific sessions.

• Manage data collection and ensure smooth, safe, and efficient testing sessions.

• Adhere to quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data collected.

• Process data and generate reports in a timely manner.

• Maintain an organized workspace that ensures participant privacy.

• Assist faculty and researchers with efficient operation of equipment in testing and training areas.

• Keep accurate inventory of laboratory equipment.

• Coordinate with research individuals/teams to ensure integration, collaboration, and communication with activities and project goals.

• Performs other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

 

Required qualifications:

 

• Bachelor's degree in biomechanics, biomedical or mechanical engineering, kinesiology, or related field.

• Proficiency in biomechanics software (MATLAB, Visual 3D, OpenSim, Python, R).

• Strong understanding of human movement analysis, data collection techniques and statistical analysis.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

 

Preferred qualifications:

 

• Two to three (2-3) years of experience working in a biomechanics laboratory with hands-on experience in motion capture, force plate analysis, and other relevant techniques.

• Master's degree in biomechanics, biomedical or mechanical engineering, kinesiology, or related field.

• Management experience in a research or technical environment.

• Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards (e.g. OSHA, and IRB).

 

Salary: Minimum starting salary $60,000 and commensurate with experience.

The BMPL is housed in the College of Health Professions. The BMPL exists in a state-of-the-art facility with access to excellent space for instruction (both lecture and laboratory), research, and simulation purposes. The College of Health Professions is situated in a growing Health Campus within the rapidly expanding healthcare corridor of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
