The Simulation Emerging Technologies Developer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of custom-created and commercial emerging technology-based applications in support of simulation at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). The Developer will facilitate the creation and use of emerging technologies such as (virtual, augmented, mixed reality, and artificial intelligence) applications that enhance learner experience and simulation-based research. The Developer will also serve as the primary point of contact and supervisor for the DCIH 260 makerspace, ensuring equipment (i.e., 3D printers) remain operational and collaborating to plan workshops/events routinely that activate the room.
PRIMARY DUTIES
1. Coordinate a portfolio of solutions, services, and resources to ensure the Interprofessional Simulation Center is contributing to technology innovation in simulation-based education that is future focused, driven by research and emerging technologies, and aligns with the University's mission and strategic priorities.
2. Monitor, evaluate, and engage in emerging trends, simulation industry best practices, and campus requirements as they relate to the deployment of innovative technologies, quality education, and next generation design, and custom application development.
3. Manage the emerging technology space by collaborating with IT & Research, creating workshops and providing instructional training on the use of technology resources within the Creative Innovation Lab.
4. Develop and build emerging technology-based applications and experiences to support simulation-based learning at GVSU.
5. Produce and maintain technical documentation when necessary to ensure sustainability of custom application development.
6. Provide ongoing support for implementing, enhancing, integrating, and maintaining applications.
7. Manage projects from conceptualization through delivery, including setting up and troubleshooting before, during and after events.
8. Foster opportunities for connections, networking, and establishing partnerships with key stakeholders establishing faculty buy-in, across the University, as well as industry experts, business leaders, professional organizations, and technology vendors in the development and application of novel technologies that build capacity and contribute to holistic student success.
9. Pursue external funding opportunities and foster interprofessional research related to the delivery of simulation and other innovative technologies.
10. Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, and other written materials.
11. Performs other duties as required/assigned.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
$73,499

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Bachelor's degree.
• A minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in application development, programming, extended reality and learning experience design.
• Experience in computer programming and coding development.
• Evidence of experience in the Information Technology field with an emphasis on supporting instructional technologies, evaluating new solutions, managing enterprise applications, developing digital media, providing quality customer service and professional development, managing student assistants, and effective project management.
• Supported record of the ability to move projects forward to successful completion.
• Experience in application and software development including virtual, augmented, and/or mixed reality using industry standard frameworks and environments.
• Experience in change management and facilitating upgrades with enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with agile software development methodologies
• Skills in digital media development, creative content development experience, and knowledge of emerging fields such as extended reality including programs like Unity, Blender, and Unreal Engine, Autodesk Maya
• Experience working with platforms such as Meta Quest 3, Microsoft HoloLens, and other head mounted displays or other emerging technologies.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies and experience in deploying best practices in applying procedures, tools and methods to acquire, prototype and evaluate new solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, coordinate multiple tasks, good organizational skills, exhibit flexibility in work schedule and job tasks.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, job contacts, and students.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
WORKING CONDITIONS
