SUMMARY:

 

The College of Urban Education at Davenport University announces adjunct university supervisor faculty positions in the Master of Urban Education program. The professionals selected for this position will join a collaborative and dedicated faculty team that emphasizes excellence in education at all levels in the context of the College of Urban Education's commitment to urban schools and healthy urban communities. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values, which include diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

• Supervise and observe all assigned teacher candidates in their classroom

• Attend meetings with Faculty to discuss candidate performance, progress and receive continuous professional and development and training regarding coaching / mentoring program candidates

• Complete in-service training provided by the College regarding tracking student observation information in ePortfolio management systems

• Assess candidate teaching performance during their clinical experience(s).

• Complete written observation forms to document candidate performance

• Document plan of action/interventions used to assist the candidate in developing knowledge, skills, and dispositions

• Provide constructive support, suggestions, and recommendations to assist the candidate's growth and development

• Demonstrate and reflect knowledge of effective instructional practices for diverse classrooms.

• Maintain individual candidate documentation (log candidate information into pertinent programs including Blackboard and Taskstream)

• Promote and sustain positive relationships, clear communication and timely reporting with teacher candidates, mentor teachers, principals, and university faculty

• Respond to email, phone calls, questions, and other inquiries promptly

• Communicates issues and concerns regarding candidate performance to faculty promptly

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• A Master's degree in Education, PhD or EdD preferred

• At least three years of successful PK-12 public school experience as a classroom teacher or equivalent in an urban setting

• Excellent oral and written communication skills (initially evaluated through the interview and written teacher philosophy submitted with employment application)

• Competence in the use of technology such as Blackboard

• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to urban issues

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others

Demonstrate a professional manner and attire

• Demonstrated effective knowledge and use of presentation, facilitation, and technology skills

• Demonstrated ability to think critically, analyze data, and read/process written information

• Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe)

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution

• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, which transcend diverse audiences

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality

• Demonstrated motivational and problem-solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University

• Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturday as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required

• Prolonged sitting and standing

• Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain)

• Ability to lift classroom materials, etc. up to twenty-five (25 pounds)
