Simulation Lab and Clinical Coordinator

PAY CLASSIFICATION: F2020-11/12 Month Faculty

DEPARTMENT: Academics

LOCATION: Warren Campus

REPORTS TO: Associate Department Chair

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for establishing and promoting an effective learning environment for students and successfully achieving learning outcomes for assigned courses relating to the simulation/skills lab and the clinical learning settings. Some responsibilities include the implementation of a current and practical curriculum, securing clinical learning sites, implementation of all aspects of the simulation/skills lab curriculum, patient simulations and experiential lab learning. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values, which include diversity, equity and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the hiring, mentoring, evaluating, supervision and training of adjunct faculty.
• Teach 15 clinical or lab credit hours per year. On occasion, may be asked to teach a didactic theory course when needed.
• Prepared to teach in all locations and modalities including online (synchronous and asynchronous), in-seat, and off-campus sites including dual/middle college.
• Assign lab courses and create lab schedules. Ensure clinical and lab courses within the department are delivered uniformly. Supervises and/or teaches open labs as necessary, ensuring that lab is staffed with qualified individuals for open lab hours. Coordinate alternate lab experiences with supervisor.
• Assists in the identification of possible clinical sites and serves as a liaison to agencies providing clinical training to nursing students. May assist in creating, structuring and monitoring clinical leadership experiences.
• Maintains all records relating to articulation agreements with clinical sites, student evaluations of clinical sites, clinical evaluations and all other documents in compliance with University policies, and maintains appropriate documentation for compliance and accreditation.
• Recommend to supervisor the supplemental resources and equipment necessary to support the program, including those items/equipment needed for the nursing lab(s) and items needed for promotion of learning outcomes related to the clinical sites. Secure appropriate resources and technology to deliver quality programs.
• Maintain, set up, and tear down equipment and items used for nursing labs. Assist other faculty to ensure all items they need to teach lab class are available and ready for classroom use. Teach other faculty how to operate simulation equipment as needed.
• Responsible for organization, cleanliness, restocking and reordering of supplies for lab(s). Disposes of hazardous equipment. Maintains equipment and ensures service of equipment when needed. Maintains good relationships with clinical and laboratory sales representatives.
• Assess simulation equipment routinely for malfunctions and service needs. Arrange for equipment servicing as needed and maintain simulation manikins as recommended by the manufacturer.
• Participates in internal and external events to promote the School of Health Professions and its programs.
• Ensures all nursing students complete HIPAA training, Blood borne Barrier Trainings, CPR, Immunization requirements and all other trainings/certifications for student ability to attend clinical.
• Ensures clinical orientations are attended by all adjunct faculty and all students.
• Ensures all adjunct faculty complete evaluations on assigned students and maintains student clinical records for accreditation documentation.
• Assists in all accreditation activities and any compliance with the Michigan Board of Nursing.
• Schedule and post all office hours, and be available to respond to students' needs (minimum of ten hours per week).
• Work in concert with academic leadership to design new courses, recommendation course revisions, evaluate text and instructional materials.
• Collaborate with academic leadership by participating in University assessment processes and curriculum or institutional self-studies. Research job requirements and employment trends, and recruit professional representatives for curriculum advisory committees.
• Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
• Unencumbered / Current nursing license.
• Demonstrated teaching ability through experience as nurse educator, nursing staff development educator, preceptor, clinical instructor or other equivalent.
• Relevant clinical nursing experience in acute care setting.
• Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
• Simulation experience preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning and professional development. Demonstrated ability to think critically, analyze data, read and process detailed information in written form.
• Professional manner and attire.
• Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, which transcend diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
