TITLE OF POSITION: Business Professionals of America - Middle Level State Advisor

CLASSIFICATION: Professional Services

STATUS: Stipend - Annual Assignment

DEPARTMENT: Academic Services

LOCATION: Grand Rapids

REPORTS TO: Partner Manager; College of Business, Tech, and Urban Ed.

PAY: $6000 stipend; $3000 per semester.

DESCRIPTION:

Are you passionate about helping the Gen Z generation find their passion, whether in business, technology, or health? Would you like to assist with the development of their future, and find success for their high school and college careers? Business Professionals of America (BPA) Michigan Middle Level (ML) needs YOU! BPA ML is looking for a driven, engaging, and motivated individual to help coordinate the BPA ML State Competition held at Davenport University. You would be the lead in coordinating events, connecting with BPA ML Chapters around Michigan; and being the main point of contact for BPA ML. This is a great opportunity to help our upcoming generation grow into successful leaders while being able to make your own schedule, work remotely, and have support from BPA Advisors at Davenport University.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and coordinate The BPA Middle Level State Competition hosted at Davenport University: Event Date: February, 16 2024
• Liaison between Michigan Business Professionals of America (BPA) Middle-Level (ML) Chapters and the BPA National Office.
• Chair the BPA ML State Leadership Conference (SLC) planning committee charged with the planning and hosting of the annual BPA ML SLC Conference.
• Support BPA ML chapters that are sending representatives to the BPA National Leadership Conference (NLC).
• Adhere to all privacy (i.e. FERPA) rules and regulations.
• Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
• Provide GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
• Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

FUNCTIONS PERFORMED IN FULFILLING MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Attend appropriate BPA State and National meetings.
• Serve as a ML Curriculum Specialist on the State Advisor Advisory Council (SAAC) a
• Manage the budget for the procurement of plaques, medallions, food, supplies, and other logistical items for the BPA ML SLC.
• Staff judges, graders, and support staff for the BPA ML SLC.
• Market and promote BPA to the Michigan ML population.
• Attend the BPA National Leadership Conference.
• Inform the Computer Lab Supervisor and/or Lab Coordinator or instructor of problems that may arise in the operation of the Lab.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Ability to be flexible in scheduling.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Self-motivated and directed in individual work assignments.
• Supervisory experience and decision-making skills.
• Experience with planning computer lab use and scheduling.
• Knowledge of wide range of computer software.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Demonstrated motivational and problem-solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of Davenport University and Business Professionals of America.
• Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). Travel between locations required (own transportation).
• No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturday as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Office environment requiring prolonged sitting and use of a personal computer (eye strain and hand repetitive motion). Some lifting is required (up to 50 lbs.).
