(Student) Sports Marketing Assistant

WORK LOCATION: Grand Rapids - Lettinga Campus

DEPARTMENT: Athletics-Administration

POSITION PAY RANGE: $12.00 - 12.50, Hourly

TARGET HIRING RANGE: Actual pay offered will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience, the type of role, pay equity and available funding.


This position will provide experience in a collegiate sports atmosphere. This position will also enhance our customer experiences through halftime events, engaging the crowds, and visiting high schools and middle schools with Pounce (mascot). This is an opportunity to learn the concept and goals of a marketing plan as you develop and manage all aspects of the strategy. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.


• Participate in ticket sales and distribution for Davenport University's athletic teams.
• Participate in high school and middle school visits w/Pounce and athletes.
• Campaign for sponsorship opportunities for Davenport events.
• Brand and market the “Student Section” at Davenport sporting events.
• Distribute and order giveaways and promotional items for fans.
• Produce Halftime Entertainment.
• Develop and implement Midnight Madness concepts.
• Contribute to the Marketing Plan for the upcoming year.
• Develop promotional materials to be used in the academic center and the dining halls around campus.
• Communicate regularly with coaches, staff, and faculty to identify opportunities to promote DU athletics and events.
• Collaborate with the marketing department to ensure appropriate standards are upheld in regards to sports marketing efforts.
• Assist with special events and functions as needed.
• Handle documents while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Provide GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
• Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.


• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting the standards of academic progress.
• Experience in sports marketing preferred, but not required.
• Pursuing a degree in marketing, sports marketing or sports management.
• Eagerness to be visible in the community.
• Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe).
• Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution.
• Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
• Office/Library environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). Moderate lifting requirements (up to 50 lbs.)
